  • Wanted: Bread Machine Dark Malt Loaf Recipe

Does anyone have a recipe for Malt Loaf for breadmachines? All the recipes I've found are for tea cake like loaves not the Soreen type.

Our neighbour has tried 10 different recipies for maltloaf...to be fair she doesn't use a bread-machine but the upshot is that you just can't seem to achieve that nice, dark, sweet, gum up your teeth Soreen taste. Even had a bakery bought malt loaf ....still not the same.

I imagine you might need proper malt...try a brewery?...maybe try sarsaparilla/Dr Peppers in the mix?...don't know but if you crack it let us all know.

After trying the recipe that I got with the bread machine I might try doing one with about 3 times the amount of dark treacle and Malt extract and have a shot of insulin ready for when I try it.

I wouldn't bother Buleste when Asda's own is about 20p.

I'm sure Flum posted a recipe for a Soreen-type malt loaf ages ago - could search for that and fiddle around with it?

Isn't that gumminess achieved by ageing the malt loaf? I don't know why I think this but may be possibly the structure of the loaf changes. They always look a little sunken when you take a Soreen Loaf out of the packet...

Have you tried this one from Carr's? It is specifically for the breadmachine. The essential ingredient is the malt extract which you get from Holland & Barratt or health food stores. Let us know how it goes!!!
