  • Urgent chocolate crispy cakes question

Do i need to add any butter to the melted chocolate mixture?

I am more of a sponge person....don't make these that often. My daughter is waiting to make them!

I don't usually but if you are doing cornflake ones it might help the chocolate spread out a little more. I usually do rice krispy ones with raisins and mini marshmallows in them.....

Hmm, wish I had a working car to go get some choccy to make some now

Usually melt the chocolate with a little butter and golden syrup and then stir in the cereal and leave to set.

I just melt Cadburys chocolate in a bowl and fold in cornflakes- and stick a mini egg on the top before they set.

I add a bit of butter and syrup too...mainly because I can do it directly in the saucepan without it buring and not have to faff about with a bowl over steam

Defo add butter and syrup, makes them much easier to eat and gives them that nice chewy texture

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Thanks for your replies. Just made a successful batch as this morning we overheated the chocolate and was a disaster but the batch we made 30 mins ago was a complete success.

yup!, makes em nice, the butter setting at a lower temp than cocoa butter will improve the eating quality, not so sure about adding syrup apart from when using choccy for an icing,

Hello smallfrog, nice to meet a local

I am not a true local though, originally from up north(Newcastle area) so this is way far south for me I had to look up your location as I don't know the area well !

The crispy cakes are heading up north this weekend... 4th birthday party and I am making the cakes. So far I have malteeser cake, custard cake and cola cake ... definitely a theme running through

Best way (in my family and friends opinions) to make chocolate crispy cakes is equal amounts of cocoa powder, golden syrup, butter and granulated sugar (1oz/25g is a standard batch but can measure the golden syrup by changing to a large spoon instead). Gives them a lovey soft but still set texture that is nice an chewy.
