This has to be my FAVE recipe for dumplings (with or without the cheese/rosemary)

      150g SR flour
      pinch salt
      50g butter
      75g cheese (your favourite)
4 teaspoons finely chopped rosemary (optional)
      4 tablespoons eater

Put the flour, salt and butter into a bowl and mix until it resembles fine breadcrumbs. Mix in the cheese and rosemary if using. Stir in enough water to bind.
Pat the dough into a 7" round and cut into 8 segments. Roll into dumpling shapes and cook in your soup/casserole for 30 minutes.

      Yum yum! DDL

Am guessing that eater should be water, they're next to each other on the key board!!!! Also, cheese in dumplings is lovely, and it's not like they have any suet to make them really fattening.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Sun dried tomatoes are also lovely in dumplings.

SBP - I would just add the amount you think - hence the "I never follow a recipe!" you could invent something completely new! Do let us know how you get on - would love to give them a try! DDL

I don't put a large amount of dried tomatoes in, Just to give the dumplings a bit more flavour. I chop them up in to small bits. It really is worth a try. Delicious!!!
I like dried tomatoes, dried thyme ( some times mixed herbs) and a little strong cheese in my dumplings as a treat.

I don't know, my Mum many years ago made herb dumplings (before it was fashionable) and we thought they were stuffing balls!

Hi Jennie, what's your Mums recipe for herb dumplings please, not sure about cheese in dumplings, and we'll be using veggie suet.

I'm sure she just put parsley and sage in the bowl when mixing an ordinary dumpling mix of flour and suet. But I think you just need a small amount of herbs!
