If you mucky lot would turn back the conversation to baked delights, originally from Cornwall, I would like to point out that the original Cornish pastie had the meat (if they could afford it) and veg at one end and the sweet at the other end. It was so a workman could have a balanced meal with savoury first (I presume they marked one end) and then a fruit or jam pie to finish.
A late friend of mine, a professional chef, had to be hospitalised after going completely insane when he tried to perfect a three course pastie. One with soup at one end. Well the first bit of this useless information is right anyway.
