  • Did someone ask for a Friendship Cake ?

    I think Smallfrog asked for this recipe.

    Please note:-
    Do not put mix in fridge else it will die. Do not use a mixer
    and Do use the same size cup each time.

    Starter:-
    1 cup flour
    1 1/4 cups water }- mix and let stand undisturbed for 24-36 hrs
    1/2 pack of dried yeast

    To the mix do the following
    Day 1 Add 1 cup plain flour
    Add 1 cup Sugar
    Add 1 cup of milk
    stir and cover loosely with a tea towel
    Day 2 stir well
    Day 3 Do nothing
    Day 4 Do nothing
    Day 5 Do as day 1
    Day 6 Stir well
    Day 7 Do nothing
    Day 8 Do nothing
    Day 9 Do nothing
    Day 10 Stir well then remove three cups to pass on to friends
    To the rest add the following
    1/2 cup of sugar
    2 tsp vanilla essence
    2 tsp baking powder
    2 Eggs
    1/2 cup vegetable oil
    1/2 cup sultanas
    1/2 tsp salt
    2 tsp cinnamon
    1 or 2 cooking apples in chunks
    2 cups plain flour
    1/2 cup chopped walnuts

    Mix everything together and put in a large greased tin (20"x11")
    Sprinkle over with 1/3cup of brown sugar and 1/3 cup of melted butter
    Bake at 180C/350F/gas 4 for 40- 50 mins
    Freezes well

    I take it that the remove three cups of the mixture for a friend is the starter, do they have to wait 24-36 hours before they start the process

      No, they can dive straight in from day 1. It's one cup to a friend so you need three people to pass it on to.

        thanks binbag will pass it on to mother and no doubt be eatting it very soon :O).

        Should really make it myself and pass it on

          1 tsp of sympathy
          2 cups of hospitality

          Preparation of Cake
          Cream greetings and smiles thoroughly. Add hug separately.
          Slowly stir in love. Sift sympathy and hospitality and fold in
          carefully. Bake in warm heart. Serve often.

            Lovely! Should be the first recipe any young cook learns!
            Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.

              Shouldn't it be left to 'rise' a bit after mixing all the ingredients together and before baking?????

                We have never done....but you can give it a go if you think it needs it.

                  Aw! Was just thrown back in time to when I did this aged around 9. I remember the process, but I don't ever remember the eating bit. Is it good?
