  • What veg is as nice as pak choi?

I'm naturally a traditional eater, but I've just bought some pak choi today and stir-fried it with soya sauce and I've never tasted anything as delicious in my life.

Could someone suggest a similar veg that would titillate my taste buds just as good?

I've sown some more - I'll pick them before they get large like my last lot and bolt - I'm growing the rubi f1 jobby - quite nice and ornimental too.

I didn't realise that they liked the cool season (although it's pretty nippy up here again!), so all the ones I've done in the greenhouse have bolted. Hopefully the ones I've got outside will enjoy the Scottish summer!

We've been eating baby pak choi for weeks (in stir-fries). That was the thinnings. Hoping to let the ones left grow bigger, but we like them as baby-leaf anyway!

just to get back to the OP, what other veg would you recommend I try. Tried fennel and didn't like it

thinking about stir-fried pak choi, pan-fried mackerel and fresh tomatoes.....yummy

Apparently they do best after the frost to end of spring, then the end of summer to end of autumn. 2 crops per year.

Thanks for that VJay but the end of frost to end of spring is about 5 minutes up here, so will be hoping the second window of the year will be more worthwhile!

I think it tastes the same to be honest. May be some more antioxidants in it due to the darker colour - but I'm not sure..

Fennel works in stir fries, but best as a modest amount with plenty of less strongly flavoured stuff. It can be a bit over-powering!
Nicest veg? you can't beat really good runner beans, steamed...
