  • Marrow...

........I have a beauty growing, , should be about the right size for eating on about Thursday ( keep\ going out and sizing it up!)
I'm a bit fed up with normal mince type stuffed marrow, any ides for something a bit different for stuffing?

I tend to use mine chopped up in bolognaise etc and had some fish cakes tonight which were smoked haddock, marrow and pea. Very nice they were too. Keep meaning to try marrow rum but never got around to it.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

My mum used to sprinkle the marrow with salt, then layer onion, tomatoes and cheese. Top it all off with some streaky bacon , wrap in foil then pop it in the oven . Yummy.

There's quite a few good recipe's on this site hamsterqueen, I've made the Caribbean marrow cake and I can honestly say it's yummy. The Savoury marrow bake's very good as well.

I make that sometimes, it's gorgeous..haven;t tried the bacon on top though.

Thanks for the link too, I like the idea of the feta , lentil and mint one and the ham and mushroom..I'm spoilt for choice now!

PS marrow has grown alarmingly overnight, Thursday may be too late

You could stuff a marrow with any savoury rice mixture you happen to like.
                      for instance
Chop a small onion and a couple of cloves of garlic, soften in a little oil over low heat. Add a small cup of rice and 1½ cups of strongly-flavoured stock, plus any tasty veg you have around (chopped sun-dried tomatoes would be good), simmer until the rice has absorbed all the liquid.
Put that in the marrow (don't fill too full, the rice will absorb a bit more liquid from the marrow, and swell up a bit), top with grated cheese, and put it in the oven the same way you would ordinary stuffed marrow.
If the marrow is big enough, it's a meal on its own!
Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.
