If you like spicy things you should try making a korean pickle called kimchi. I have it every time i eat out. It's made with LOTS of crushed chillis, minced ginger, garlic.. and probably some other things too. Never made it myself, but intend to with my upcoming cucumber glut.

You can juice them, good with carrot juice, but peel first or it goes khaki Peel lengthways with a potato peeler and use as a stirfry veg. Ottolenghi do a wonderful cuc and poppy seed salad.

Give them to friends and family. My grandparents are always giving me cucumbers and I share vegetables with them.

Have you tryed cucumber milkshake by the way?

Hi WW, I know exactly what you're going through! We are also inundated with the things! I have been frantically searching for things to do with them and come up with some good things, tzatiki, pickles (still have some from last year, so don't really want to do more!), and obviously add to every salad going, give them out to neighbours, friends etc., but just recently found a good recipe for Hot Cucumber Soup, and it's amazing and will even freeze! Just cook with spring onions, potato, herbs and stock add a bit of cream et voila! Brilliant! Would love some other ideas as well though if anybody has any! I have told Mr TK (again!) not to grow so many next year!

Sorry to divert slightly from your thread...

Might you tell me how you got so many cucumbers...I've got 4, and the largest is one inch long. I don't see any movement in it on a daily basis...I do all the usual stuff you're supposed to do...feed etc., warm & humid, undercover...
I sowed the seeds 23 April. Lots of male flowers for past month...it's been going on for yonks.

Crosbie, rather like WW I find cucumbers very fickle and have no idea why sometimes they produce and other times don't... but that's what happens to me every year. It sounds as if yours have "stuck" as once they're growing they usually grow quite quickly....and now it's quite difficult to prompt them back into continuing. Patience and stable conditions offer the best chance as the reason they have stuck is almost bound to be changing conditions (temperature, water, light, humidity...). Evidently they can also suffer from - sounds unlikely! - "incomplete fertilisation" - the mind boggles Also check that none of the little ones has turned yellow (if so remove) as this is naturally the end product and will signal to the plant to stop growing! Now we're passed the longest day it's probably too late to try re-sowing unless you have artificial lights etc.. I have some spare gherkin plants (treat as mini-cucs!) but as cucs hate root disturbance (and just about everything else...) I'm not sure they'll take very kindly to being upside down in the post! bb
                        .
