Coincidentally, I emailed this to a friend yesterday who was in the same predicament. I can vouch for the taste!!:

Cucumbers in Sour Cream Recipe - Polish Mizeria
The Polish name for cucumbers in sour cream is "mizeria” - literally meaning "misery," referring to the dish being conceived by peasants, who were nicknamed "the miserable ones" by the have-gots! See the legend below.
This delightful, cooling salad is anything but "misery." It's a great accompaniment to pork, ham, chicken, fish, just about anything. Choose thin cucumbers with small seeds or the seedless variety. Dress this just before serving so the dish doesn't become watery. That's another reason my family doesn't use vinegar -- it waters down the dressing -- but it's a classic component of the dish.
      Makes 4 servings
      Prep Time: 30 minutes
      Total Time: 30 minutes
      Ingredients:
      • 1 large cucumber with or without seeds, washed and trimmed
      • Salt
      • 1/2 cup sour cream
      • 1 teaspoon sugar
      • 2 teaspoons white vinegar (optional)
      • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh dill
      Preparation:
Note: Legend has it this dish was a favorite of Queen Bona Sforza, an Italian princess who married Polish King Sigismund I in the 16th century. Homesick for her native Italy where cucumbers were common, everytime she ate it, it made her cry. Hence the Polish word for "misery," derived from the Latin.
      1. Run a channel knife or fork down the length of the cucumbers to produce a pretty edge, and slice thinly. Place in a colander over a bowl to catch the juices and salt the cukes liberally. Allow to stand for 30 minutes.
      2. In a small bowl, mix remaining ingredients. Pat cucumbers dry and place in a medium bowl. Add the dressing and toss with the cucumber slices. Season to taste with salt and black pepper. Chill and sprinkle with additional dill, if desired, before serving.

My pasandra in the polytunnel is producing slightly more than we need on it's own (currently eating cheese and cucumber butties ) so when the two mirella's kick in in about a week or so I'll be doing what I usually do ie give them to friends. Fingers crossed I'll get bags of damsons and apples back in the autumn in exchange.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I'm growing Passandra also, and have two plants but one would be ample. Definately grow them again as they grow to a perfect size to use the whole cucumber at a time.

Sounds strange but try a couple of slices of cucumber in a nice glass of gin n tonic. Trust me I turned my nose up at first and thought my friend was jokin but it is actualy quite refreshing. Nice on a hot day and makes a change from lemon. try it and letm know wot u think.

I've never heard of the mini crunch ones?? What are they called? How big do they grow? My kids would love those, I'm sure!! My kids are the same and eat loads of cucumbers...we have only had one this year so far but a fair few others are coming through...guess I'll just have to be patient!!

My marketmores are taking over the greenhouse - I have 2 cucs in the fridge, another 6 on the plant ready for picking and a good dozen or more coming on behind them. I also have 3 plants (same variety) outside and these are just starting to grow fruits.

My first ones were like this for days and didn't seem to be growing at all but then, all of a sudden, they started and that was it. No looking back.

So take heart Crosbie - it aint over until that fat lady starts singing and when she does, pretty soon you'll have a full scale Opera happening

Last year I managed to raise one cucumber plant - and got one 2" cucumber from it (outside) - so this year, I sowed a few more and planted out 7 in Morrisons buckets for the new greenhouse - assuming a) one cucumber per plant and b) height is less than 2ft.

                              Ooops!

They are going great guns - Mirelle I think and a white one which is wacky - definitely too many!

Question - if anyone has tried this - one of my books suggests you train them up the string to the top of the greenhouse (which is fine) then you train them over the top of the support and back to the ground - well, how??? Mine seem to want to keep going up - any suggestions on how I persuade them to go down?

(don't mention the sideshoots that are taking over everything in sight!! - though they are meeting the invasive tomatoes from the other side, not sure who will win...)
