  • strawberry popcorn

We attempted strawberry popcorn this year. It looks very windblown and isnt exactly plump! I have 2 questions (not sure if it should be in this section or the veg growing bit?)

    1. I know on usual sweetcorn it is ready when a milky liquid comes fro the kernals, is that the same with popcorn?

    2. HOw do you cook it. I now you have to dry the cobs and you can do them in the microwave? BUt does anyone know how?

    Thankyou

I got these seeds from Moreveg, it says its definately an eater, and you can do them in microwave once dried, but its a bit scarce on details! NOt sure they are plump enough though. Have only picked one to have a look see, but temps dropping out there and its gonns get real wet soon I think.

They do look very pretty though thea, a nice pink tinge to the kernals

Dont know how long I have to let them dry for or how long to ping them?

Last year I left my sweetcorns [the multicoloured ones from the USA] on until they dried completely; I would think it is the same with popcorn - as they need to be dried before popping.

Well, I hope so as that's what I'm doing with mine.

I don't have a microwave so I'll be trying to pop them in a good old fashioned pan with oil

Mr Z nearly got lamped one on Sunday as he strode over to the popcorn, ripped one off and said 'is this ready yet?'.....'well if it wasn't it inn't gonna be now is it - and even if it was nice and plump - it's popcorn so it needs to be left on the ******* plant until it is ******* dry don't it?'......was my response.....or words to that effect.....

I left mine all last winter Donna - and they germinated all by themselves in the spring. So just keep trying and when the cobs are nice and dried, snap some off and put somewhere to keep them dry.

Whether they will bulk up enough for popcorn is another matter; but they look nice
