  • hamper ideas

I have some freinds that I am trying to cheer up as one of them starts chemo on monday for hodgkins lymphona. Im going to make them a hamper of goodies, good old fashioned comfort food. I am looking for ideas, I have thought of a few muffins and some homemade biscuits. I am also going to make some homemade sweeties but hae only really done chocolate covered toffees. So ideas please, I really want to go all out to cheer them up.

    What a lovely idea!

I used to make Marzipan sweets, miniature fruits, very easy and pretty too. Also chocolate Truffles, again very easy. A quick 'Google' should put you in the right direction.

I make hampers for christmas preseants most years (some more successfull than others lo).
I aagree with the marshmallows - always go down really well inmine (HUgh Fernlys got a really easy recipie).
jam, chutney and sloe gin went in mine last year too along with home meade wines.
This year we are drying the chillies from our plant and grinding them for chilli powder to go into the hamper and I might try my hand at some of those melt and pur soaps.
              Hope this may have helped

Hey! I was gonna say that

I've not put nearly as much effort into this year's...yet.

Need to get a job-lot of limes for some more lime pickle.

I did my brother a hamper once with lots of weird stuff I knew he'd like. It included:
                Space icecream (that's dehydrated icecream!)
                A jar of baby octopuses
                A jar of pickled eggs
                A jar of pickled onions
                Beer
                Jaffa cakes

Lots of stuff I knew he'd like personally.

                  Oooh how strange ollie!!

I have so far done cheese scones, meringues, biscuits and chocolates with biscuit bottoms. After lunch I am doing muffins, truffles and PB's no cook fudge

Wont look quite as impressive as your hampers though Ollie

                    Nice simple choccies.....

Buy blocks of white, milk and plain chocolate.
Melt each one separately in a glass bowl over a pan of boiling water.
On a piece of silver foil drop a heaped teaspoon of chocolate and spread it into discs roughly 4cm in diameter
As they are cooling gently press in chopped apricots, hazelnuts, raisins, coconut flakes, pistatio, chilli flakes, banana chips...well anything you fancy really!!!

Then put into the fridge till set.

...very simple and it's nice to be able to pick out the ones you fancy most of all to eat first!!

Does anyone have the relative quantities for chilli chocolate, please? Don't want to have to rush anyone to A&E on Christmas Day!
