    Thanks for so many replies!

Just expanding on my Bento Box a little bit: It can be used as a soup flask, but its wide enough to accommodate solid foods aswell. Its thermally insulated as mentioned above which allows food to be kept both hot a cold for a while which is excellent. Cant comment on that much yet only used it the once!

I took it to work today, holding some tuna mayo and brocolli in the large container which contains a removable compartment (prevents mixing) and then cooked up some rice in a microwave to add.

It is watertight but ive not tested that aspect long enough just yet

As for the rice issue, im uncertain just how hot the box keeps food hot enough to prevent the growth of bacteria for long enough. An hour or 2 would be fine, but longer than that im unsure about. The website says 5 hours, but thats in an environment held at a relatively warm temperature. the box says the larger compartment keeps hot/cold for 5 hours, the smaller compartment for 4.

Thanks for the links people, firebox advised me on the justbento. com aswell, which is great as it contain non japanese recipes aswell.

    For £16 i think its a bargain

Ours has had soup in it a fair few times and never leaked. It is sorta like a thermos that instead of heating up with hot water you just microwave it.

On the recipe front though I think pretty much anything would go as long as you could fit it in! We have had rice pudding in ours before now and it was fine and stew in the other side.

I have a soup flask I take to the lottie. If you put pasta with sauce in there in the morning the pasta has fallen apart and disintigrated by the time you eat it BUT if you put the sauce in there to keep hot then add dried pasta about an hour before you want to eat it you have lovely pasta with sauce for lunch. I keep a bag of pasta twists at the lottie in winter for this purpose - which reminds me, must take some up there.....

Interestingly enough, the bento boxes I had in Japan were simply ordinary lunch boxes and nothing like these fancy ones

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

They're the same thing as tingkat or tiffin boxes then?

Certainly does look like a tingkat, only no metal. They are surprisingly light which is a good thing.

Rice pudding for the second compartment is an excellent idea!
