Hi I have just got one of these I know it has been discussed on here before but my search shows nothing. Can anyone tell me where to get the starter and does it taste as good as ordinary yoghurt
You can get packs of the starter from Lakeland, or Lawsons online. I know that both Julian Graves and Holland & Barrett on the high street stock the flavours as well.
I much prefer it to shop bought yoghurt - I used the natural and greek in cooking, as well as to eat on it's own; and I've made frozen yoghurt with it as well. They also make 'drinking' yoghurt, similar to the little bottles of the stuff you get in the supermarket.

Glad you like yours OWG gives me hope, now just have to find the starter, we dont have any of the shops you mention round here, I expect I could get it on ebay but then might be expensive

I tend to order mine online from Lawsons (link) as it's a bit of a pain trying to actually get into the shops for me...
Oooh, QVC often has them as well... they deliver pretty much anywhere!

5 packets of Greek base is �9.99, which is ~�1.99/litre.
Yeo Yalley (Organic, mind) Greek Pots (450g) are �1.50 in the tesco near me.. which is just under half a litre I think? - 0.45l.. assuming 450g = 16oz, going by Google's Calc.
So.. that's �3.00 for a litre of Yeo Yalley, or �1.99 for a litre of your own made stuff.
Guess it depends on if you eat a lot of yoghurt. I might get one as a small pressie for my mrs as the little one loves yoghurt.
1 packet makes 1 litre of yoghurt (1 large tub in the maker). It's a fair amount of yoghurt, if you divide it up into portion servings.
If I make mine overnight, I put it in the fridge when I get up. I think at this time of year (and the temperature of my kitchen) you could probably leave it out all day, although I wouldn't chance it in summer!
How long does it keep, OWG? That Yeo Valley stuff says once the pot is open to use within 3 days.. twice the amount for 3 days.. eep! Can you freeze it into frozen yog?
I keep mine for about a week - I love it. I usually buy the basic ones and not the flavoured ones (although the banana yoghurt is divine!) as I try to not have any sugar in my yoghurt.
Never used a starter as such - I just buy a small pot of live yoghurt and use two tablespoons of that. Then just keep using two spoonfuls of your 'own' yoghurt to make a new batch.
If I want thick, spoonable yoghurt, I just drip it through a muslin to get a Greek-style thickness.

Yup - freezes quite well into frozen yog - good as a dessert! If you mix some fruit puree through before you freeze it, it's rather yummy! Good for your LO if she is teething
I usually make some on a Sunday night and then take it to work all week with me, so about 5 days or so, if in a fridge.
