My dad is 93 and never had sunflower or olive oil in his life.. we always had chips cooked in beef dripping and eggs and bacon friend in lard. anyroad, yorkshire pudding turn out crap if veg oil is used.. You will find both lard and dripping in my fridge as well as olive oil in my cupboard.. its great for de-waxing me ears.

Used to be given dripping and bread by my gran when I stayed with her...loved it, but I had some chips fried in it last time I went "oop North" and it was disgusting!

Sorry just not my cuppa tea in that respect.

If I'm cooking 'proper' Roast Potatoes, then I'll do them in lard. Why? Coz that's how my late mother always did them, and they were always amazing. I've tried other fats and oils and just can't get the same result. However, I only do 'proper' Roast Potatoes a few times a year on special occasions.

I imagine duck fat is the same as goose fat? Hopefully my 3 bird roast will proffer a bit of fat for the roasties?
