I like the sloes with dark chocolate myself, but also try adding a few to apple pie/crumble or make Slider (add scrumpy-type proper cider- not Strongbow- to used sloes from vodka or gin and leave for about 8 weeks before drinking. About 1/2 pint used sloes to 2 pints cider and don't expect to do much after drinking it!
I've heard of doing something similar with cheap red wine too. Or add vodka to gin soaked sloes. Or sherry.
You could also probably make sloe gin jam/jelly, maybe with some apples. It might be the sort of thing to have with meat rather than on crumpets, although my children will happily eat what we eventually labelled Slamson jam last year as we couldn't decide whether the fruit was sloe or damson, but which I now think were bullaces...
