Just finished the first bottle of sloe gin, really lush. I have 1/2 a bottle of soaked sloes left in the bottle can I use them for anything? Seems a waste just to throw them out
I made damson gin and have saved the damsons [I actually used them for a second brew]; I used the first 1/3 of them in damson and chocolate flapjacks which we polished off today.
I made sloe and apple jelly this year, Stella - using cooking apples and ordinary sloes. I reckon the gin flavoured ones would work just as well.
I also froze some sloes last year - and forgot to label the bag. So I defrosted them thinking they were frozen blueberries. It took a bite of one to prove to me it was no blueberry - it had a tooth jarring stone in the middle. However it was not bitter at all.
I like Jeanied's Sloe Gin & Apple Jelly idea rather quite a lot, and will prolly play around with my Whisky Sloes in a similar vein once they've finished 'mashing', so thanks for that tip.
