I have a small (1.5L) and a med (3.5L) slow cookers, but I really use the larger of the 2 the most. I think you can now get them as large as 5 or 6 litres, which I wouldn't need.

My experince of having both sizes, I would say that you would be limiting yourself, if you went for the couple size. Because you don't have to fill a larger size, for it to work. However, I do come from a batch cook mentality, so I'd much rather put all the work into cooking double veggie dish in 1 go, and then eat the same again for lunch or dinner the nest day. Or if you don't like the same meal 2 days running, then pop the remaining veggie meal into a blender and a lovely soup. Are blenders a little evil too?

I had a quick look on the Lakeland site last night, as you have a voucher then we are only looking at those they offer. Obviously depending how much your voucher is for, I'd go for their own make med size (£30?) or the glass/see through med size (£60?). You don't have to worry about buying 1 with a timer, as I think only the mega size 1 had, because if veggie dishes really do cook much quicker, then just use a standard timer that you put in the plug socket, prior to your plug (if you know what i mean). I think the more you pay is really just for looks, hence why I quite like the glass 1, but a slow cooker is a slow cooker.

All new 1's have a glass lid, which is good, just because we all like a peep, espcially when it's knew or we are trying out a new recipe. Lifting the lid is not a good idea, as it takes 1/2 hr to get back to temp again. This is because the cooking is done by all the heat creating moisture on the lid, so if that is removed then you lose the cooking process. Which makes me question how a veg stock only takes 1/2 hour to cook.

When you've had a look and have any questions about any of the machines you fancy, then ask away. I'm only sorry I can't give feedback on loads of veggie dishes, although I think I may have tipped in loads of chopped veg from Asda (2p a bag) and just adding curry sauce (froze into smaller portions). Which is why I'm a little confused about the feedback on here of veg cooking so much quicker, because the slices of carrots took ages to cook, I ended up taking them out and cutting into small pieces. Plus when doing spuds, I slice them in the processor because again they need ages, but with spuds you do need to make sure they are covered in liquid, or they will go grey. I've not actually experienced them going grey (books warning) as I use a slow cooker because I love casseroles, so always have liquids/sauces.

Just a thought, but as I have older Tower slow cookers, that maybe why my experience is different from others, regarding veg cooking.

My small 1 is 55 watts, hence why they use to refer to them not costing more than a light bulb to run. My med 1 is 180 watts max, in that you have the option of low high and auto. They are both the same make and I think were sold in the 80's, but I don't know if the low option goes to 55 watts, like it's little sister.

Whereas the feedback from others, could be that they have a greater wattage and therefore more risk of things over cooking if left too long.

The advantage of all new slow cookers, is that you can lift the bowl out for washing. My small little 1, has no bowl to remove, so not so handy for washing as it's bigger sister.

Yep my local supermarket have loads of half priced deals on nearly every household item, so good time to get a deal.

Well done you and I wonder if you can actually cook squid in it. Whatever next, have you got a breadmaker? Hee, hee.

Let us know how you get on with your first recipe, best of luck.

Not veggie, but I've cooked for veggies, and sometimes we eat veggie (if OH isn't looking). YES get a slow cooker (if you haven't since this started).
Mostly I use slow cooker for things like chilli, curry and other stewish things. Those are exactly the dishes in which I can replace some (and it could be all) the mince with red lentils (OH doesn't notice if I am careful, and put in a handful of Bulgar to mimic the texture of mince) . Those who actually prefer the meat-free option could easily use pre-soaked (and boiled where necessary) pulses where I use meat, add in some nuts (if you like) the possibilities are endless!
Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.

You'll never guess. I gave the Slow Cooker to my daughter the same day it arrived. I thought long and hard and decided that I'll still benefit, because she cooks for us!

We were in Lakeland today and thought of you

Looked at the slow cookers and they all seemed good but have you thought about a Remoska? They aren't cheap but they are quick and very versatile.
I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" he said "Grab your things

                              Hi Zaz

I'm not veggie but a lot of my cooking is as it's cheaper. I have a 6 litre crock pot, a Tricity one, that I bought with clubcard points and it's ace. I wanted a bigger capacity as I batch cook so much. (well you know my kind of cooking from facebook, heh)

I have veg soup cooking overnight this evening ready for tomorrow as we speak.

This site has some of the most wonderful recipes, veg and non veg.

We go camping with friend that take their Remoska along, they cook everything from jacket potatoes to cakes. Be no good to us because we don't use electric hookups.
