  • New Potatoes

Himself and I are totally different with regard to new potatoes, just wondered how you prefer them?

Him: Scraped and covered in mint sauce and gravy.
Me: Scrubbed and covered in butter and mint sauce

My Granny used to cook them in boiling water while my mum used to do them from cold and my mum used to cook them unpeeled and peel them when cooked for my dad.

Washed, then lightly boiled in salty water with several sprigs of peppermint, drained & served piping hot with a generous knob of butter & sprinkled with chopped fresh spearmint

Or if to be served cold as above but with added salad cream & chives when cooled

Washed and boiled . Then either with butter or cold with mayo (has to be the right mayo) or salad dressing. Also nice roasted.

best is washed, no scraping or peeling, then boiled in salted water. Drain em, then toss with torn mint, a knob of real butter and flaky, Malden type salt. I could eat them by the bucket!

I do roast them too, usually with thyme and maybe some lemon peel or with garlic and sage.

                  mmmmmmmmm.

I just steam and serve plain. Son No2 said they taste as if they have been buttered anyway . My mum used to boil with mint, but none of mine like them that way, so I don't bother.
I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!

Imo, mint has its place - in teas not on my taters - but i like my taters like this ^ Nice and simple. The taste of new potatoes fresh out of the ground is amazing, no need for extra seasoning

Thoroughly washed (rubbed hard while in the water, often a layer of skin rubs off anyway, if it doesn't, leave it alone!) boiled or steamed, served with butter, or with gravy, or mixed (warm, but not hot) into mayonaise with chopped spring onions, depending what else I am eating at the same time.
