    Hi Grapes,
I'm doing the evening buffet for a friend's wedding this summer, I've got lots of ides but wondered if anybody has any particular favourites that would go down well? My 'thing' is savouries so my biggest headache is to sort the sweet stuff out.....

    many thanks

    Sweet stuff?? Yum!

    How about:
mini-meringues with cream and summer berries
chocolate brownies or millionaires shortbread squares
    ginger cake
    choux pastry eclairs

Just make them smaller than a normal portion

We had a summer wedding and elderflower meringues and elderflower cream with berries went down a storm! You could do it like an Eton Mess in little cups or glasses so easy to make hours before and transport to the venue?

Anything lemon flavoured is nice for summer weddings, lemon cheesecake mmmm! Or how about a Pimms jelly with a strawberry cream topping, garnished with a sprig of mint?

How about scrounging a loan of one of those chocolate fountain things and providing a plateful of fruity bits and one of finger-biscuits to dip?

Strawberries and cream (or Eton Mess) and home-made gingersnaps or shortbread.

Is it a fork buffet or finger buffet? Anything "mini" will work well on a finger buffet, but if it's a fork buffet, then you can save yourself several hours in hard labour by making larger versions and portioning up on the day. Also, don't knock yourself out trying to make everything homemade - especially if you are catering for over fifty. Search out a local cake producer and check out what they have to offer. It's a shame you are not down this way as there is a fantastic cake small buisness in Bude who do all sorts of desserts which are to die for.. Actually, they may deliver! So check out "Cornish Cakes" - I'm sure if you google it it'll come up. At the very least it might give you some inspiration!

I like food that can be eaten with one hand and won't stain your posh frock ... macarons would do me for starter, main and pud

Oooh, I just remembered! We went to a wedding last year and were given mini Summer Puddings with either ice cream or cream. Delicious!

there's going to be approx 150 there, some would have been to the 'main' do and 20 of them will be kiddies so I'm thinking to look at approx. 100. I've already got a load of bits in the freezer - sausage rolls, quiches, chicken nuggets (I no but there are kids there!!),mini sausages etc - yo know the sort of stuff that you get from ahhmmm Ice****.
My list so far has got the likes of coleslaw, potato salad, pasta salad, chiken wings, cheese puffs, mini spanakopita and various other type things that can be frozen either finished or half done. I'm thinking of doing some cupcakes which I could freeze now and ice nearer the time. I'm going to do a cheese board with some of my homemade pickles and chutneys.
I did think of doing some jelly for the kids and maybe some 'adult' jellies - what do you reckon? Love the idea of individual eton mess.
I love catering for large numbers although the last 'big do' was nearer 80! I'll be on school holidays by then so will have plenty of time (she says....)
