...If I grate a load of my really juicy apples and then squeeze them in muslin I can get apple juice ? I need 200 ml for a recipe and being tight it grieves me to buy a carton when I have a tree full .

We helped our local Zider Makers one year - they quartered and pressed their apples, so I'd suggest chopping and mashing with your spud masher?

I'm thinking it'd be easier and quicker to grate them with the food processor .......But I could then put them in the sieve and mash them ....

We've got a juicer but only very rarely use it for apples because it takes loads of apples to get a little bit of juice, and it goes very brown very quickly on contact with air.

If you chop the fruit, stir in about a teaspoon of lemon juice to stop it going brown and maybe add some sugar to re-sweeten it a bit, then simmer, gently, in a closed saucepan (or give them a burst in the microwave) and put the whole lot to drip through muslin overnight. I don't think it'll affect the flavour very much but you'll get loads more juice.

Grate and squeeze Bins, works a treat, especially if you don't need a lot of juice. We usually mince ours, put in the jelly bag, and then squeeze between 2 plates. But if you twist/wring it out like a dishclosh you'll get plenty of juice out

Here, orange juice is abandoned at this time of year for apple juice made from windfalls. I roughly quarter the apples and remove any bruised or bad bits then pressure cook the apples with around a pint of water. Once strained the resulting juice keeps for about two weeks. The juice has a pink tinge probably due to my apple varieties.

Is it a juicer you want or a press. We have a citrus press come general juicer but I find it quicker by hand really. For apples I'd have thought a press.
