  • Old bread mix?

Just found an old bread mix (Parmesan and sundried tomato flavour) at the back of the cupboard.
I've chucked it into the breadmaker.

Problem is it has a 'best before' date of January 2011!

Will it be naff or worse still could I poison myself?

Certainly smells nice as its cooking!

Don't take my word for it (and I hope we all hear from you again) but I'm guessing you won't poison yourself. Best before dates are often @r$e covering devices, IMHO.

At worst it might not rise as well as a newer pack, or the flavourings might not be as good. I would certainly have used it. Enjoy.
Whether you think you can or whether you think you can't, you are probably right.

Thanks Bren! I had an idea that was the case and the only way i won't eat it is if it tastes naff............which by the smell of it, it won't!

You'll be perfectly all right Snadger. The government is getting rid of 'best before' dates so they won't matter any more. You'll be fine. Us old coffin dodgers take no notice of the 'best before'/'sell by'.

You use your nose. If it smells a bit iffy you don't use it. If it smells OK you do, despite tha date.

Phew! Good to hear from you.

I have remembered that I have a packet of this tucked away; I'd better check the date.

I never pay the slightest notice of sell by dates on dry stuffs, so long as they're kept clean and dry you're fine, worst that can happen is the yeast will be off and that always lasts longer than they say.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Your nose tells you if something's off. Anyway, if it kills you you've got loads of mates here with spades who'll bury you!
