  • Fishy Christmas Recipe Help Please!

    Hi All

I now this is probably a bit early but will probably have to mail order the fish so am getting thinking a bit early.....

We've decided to have fish on Christmas Day this year and so I wondered if anyone had any suggestions for recipes and suppliers?

I am fairly comfortable cooking fish but would ideally like something tried and tested and / or traditional to someone. Sadly, with my East London heritage I don't have a lot to draw in there!

    Jellied Eels?

Seriously though, how many people are you catering for? If just two or three, a Dover Sole each is always a fine fish. For larger numbers, Turbot, Large Monkfish, Halibut, a whole Salmon.

Have a look at this link: eat the seasons | seasonal food

You will see here the best fish in season and some recipes for each as well as further links.

You might also like to look at this link: http://www.thefishsociety.co.uk/index.html - I have no personal experience of this company, but they have a good reputation, but rather expensive. Even so you might glean some ideas or recipes from their site.

Do your own gravlax Buy a whole side of salmon, and find a recipe online. It really is the easiest thing to do, and is still very impressive. Serve with a mustard and dill sauce

I buy a whole salmon and have it cut into 2 halves down the spine. Roast one half, wrapped in tinfoil to start and turn the other half into gravadlax as Sarriss suggests. This keeps well and can be eaten cold on Boxing Day or in a few days time.

Ha, yes! Pie & Mash & Eels for Christmas Dinner. Nom.

It's only two of us - maybe up to four. I like the idea of a Dover Sole very much

Thank you so much for the links, I'll go and have a read now.
