I struggle to understand this no carbs thing, I avoid the rubbishy processed ones but then again I don't eat much processed food and fully buy into keeping away from things that don't need to be in food. Find this pretty easy by cooking from scratch, if you know the base ingredient you know what you're eating, if you want to scare yourself, start reading packaging. That said, if I don't eat carbs I feel lethargic and tired. I need my energy so eat what my body needs and it works very well on a bowl of wholewheat pasta with a tomato and veggie sauce.
Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.
Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

It's not for everyone though: athletes need their carbs. Mr TS gets through a mountain of pasta when he's "training", ie off the chocky bickiesAll gardeners know better than other gardeners." -- Chinese Proverb.

Sometimes your body needs a "shake up". It's not a daddy diet, but a wake up call to your body and can be used to kickstart a sluggish metabolism. Think of it in terms of a change of shampoo or a change of skincare regime. This is a regimen that many nutritionists, medics will advocate for people with health issues/allergies. Your body gets used to what you put into it as indeed shampoo/hair, etc. I used to fast every weekend on beetroot and carrot juice, when I was much younger and without children. It wasn't for any other reason than kick starting my system. I felt great in it for three years. That is fairly hardcore. This isn't and if you feel better for an "oil change" then why not? It is not for me to judge.Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better...Albert Einstein

Or it's just [as described in my original post] a way of trying to reduce the carbs on a regular basis and getting used to having no carbs for a week will help us to be more imaginative about the menu planning and cooking that we do. As veggies, we rely heavily on carbs and we have talked about reducing it for ages, and I must admit I am having no bad reaction to it and am feeling quite energised this week.

So....all week I've felt lively and good and...
Yesterday I had my longed for porridge, a bagel for lunch and a little rice with curry and loads of salad and I was totally zoned out most of the day and went to bed at 8 and slept right through til 6:30 this morning.
I'm back on the cheese for breakfast this morning. Just watched Mr Z toast the last cinnamon bagel. So Tempted but just felt so tired yesterday I restrained myself.
I like cheese.
ETA: Friday, I went from 7am til 2pm with only eating a little cheese before I was hungry again. Marvelous.Last edited by zazen999; 11-03-2012, 08:54 AM.

These are delicious and the next batch, I'm taking to work! Next time I'll buy ground almonds though as I had to grate mine. It was a bit fiddly but well worth it.

Aldi or, if you have one near you, an Asian supermarket are cheapest for ground almonds. I've also bought a less sweet sweetener to make the next lot...I could still taste the Aldi stuff the next day.

Re the ground almonds, I've put whole or flaked ones in my mini food processor in the past to make ground ones, only takes a few seconds and works really well. Cake looks lovely but we'd end up throwing half (at least) of it away as we don't eat much of that sort of thing so I only really make fruit cakes which last for weeks unless we have loads of people round.

It's getting difficult to cook for six or seven people.....tonight the BH wants curry, but he and me aren't doing rice...so maybe the cauli-rice substitute....but then, I need to cook rice for the YPs. Actually, the difficult bit is finding substitute 'fillers'.....things to replace bread, pasta, rice etc. I don't really want to do wholewheat alternatives as we're trying to cut the wheat/starchy things and we don't like brown rice or pasta. Burgen bread is different.....nom...
There are lots of low carb breakfasts and lunches recommended in various places, but they are nearly all cooked....I seem to be on an endless cycle of cooking and washing up.Jules
