  • How big is a "cup" when making ice cream?

Just about to make some ice cream for the first time with my daughter, we've got all the ingredients ready, frozen the bowl and got Ben & Jerry's recipe book, but they measure everything in "cups". How big is a cup? I have measuring cups which go from 60ml to 240ml - which one should I use?

    A cup is 8 ounces.
    (I have the opposite problem)
it comes out to about 250 ml, if this is of any help.
    236.5882375 according to online converters.

now that I look at your measurements, your 240 ml is a cup.

In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.

I have a set of plastic measures and the 240ml one is marked as 'a cup'

The real beauty of a "cup" is that as long as all the ingredients are measured using the same cup, the size doesn't matter (!)

well, I know what you mean but it does matter for most recipes.....for example bread recipes have flour in cups but yeast in teaspns.

An American cup is not the same as a UK cup - so depends on who wrote the recipe!

I wouldn't have a clue when it comes to making ice-cream, but if serving ice-cream in a cup...it should be very big
Tried and Tested...but the results are inconclusive

Ha...I must have had brain-freeze...EE will do nicely, so does that mean I get two big cups of ice-cream?

It takes me forever to convert between the two.

I gave a cake book away recently as it was only in cups, find them a really annoying measurement - it's bad enough converting between ounces and grams

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
