  • Cooking Spoons

Do you prefer using stainless steel spatulas while you are cooking or do you prefer the plastic-like type? I've notice the steel scrapes and the plastic-like type doesn't last very long.

I'm with VC there! Wooden - never wear out. Why are yours wearing out though? What are you cooking that takes so much scraping?
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

I like the silicone ones, but must remember not to put them in the dishwasher: the heat melts the glue and the tops fall off

plastic for non stick frying pans, or you used to be able to get flat wooden spatulas, i still have one sonewhere, or wooden spoons for anything else. A metal whisk in the stainless saucepans for white sauces.

I know these aren't spoons but I use Painter's stainless steel scrapers (new of course) in my frying pans. The blades are very thin and flexible and they slide easily under fried eggs and such like.
You can buy a set of three, with different width blades and wooden handles - oh, so versatile!!

I use wooden spoons and spatulas Mr Pots carves them, out of these the one that's 3rd from the right is the most used.

Wooden spoons are the only things that should go in pans!

I hate listening to the sound of a metal spoon stirring round in a pan.

I have some silicony spatulas that are useful for jars and cake mix bowls.

                        Wooden and silicon here....

A lot of the utensils I use for jam making are silicon, to cope with the heat of molten jam (spoon, ladel etc)

All my silicon ones are single-piece, and can stand fairly high temperatures, so they get put in the dishwasher with everything else!

I have wooden too- and a plastic fish slice type thing.

I also have a huge wooden spoon with FRUIT written on it for my jams so it doesn't get accidentally used for stiring curries!

I can tell which spoon is used for what from the discolouration! Red for jam and fruit, orange for curry - the others have no character yet! My all-time favourite wooden spoon is a murky brown with a worn down side from all that stirring
