Mine was Gran and I deffo remember her shallow frying chips and dumplings in dripping.............

I always have lard in the house. Following my mum's tradition, I use it to make dripping, which then makes delicious gravy if I'm not roasting a joint, or spread on thick cut doorsteps of bread with a sprinkle of salt. I use it half and half with butter or marg to make pastry and I always use it for frying meat instead of oil. For the last 2 weeks it's been unavailable in T***o, so I've asked my daughter to see if she can get it for me in Sains or More Reasons.
My mum used a "nut" of lard in her dumplings that my dad called "flour and watter bombs".
I'm Nanny to my grandchildren because I wanted to be called "Granny", but my firstborn granddaughter couldn't say it and called me "Nanny". I love it now. I made lardy cake the other day for me dad in law, it looked awful dripping in the stuff but once it had crisped up it smelt gross but tasted nice lol must of be a heart attack in the shape of a cake tho :\If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need. Marcus Tullius Cicero

Remember my nan used to have a jar of dripping on the window ledge which was all different colours depends from what it had been drained - was truley yuk. She used to use it for all sorts, dippy bread was the worst which consisted of melting some if it in a pan then dipping bread into it and eating, not frying crisp but just soggy, fatty bread - yuk and double yuk! Do use lard sometimes for pastry though although more often go with Trex type products these days.
Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.
