  • Icing advice please!

Seeing Jule's gingerbread house thread has encouraged me to find an Ikea gingerbread house kit in our cupboard.
Fortunatelly it's just in date and we've decided to give it a bash at decorating it.

I've got a few sweets to stick on it, and I have some icing sugar and greaseproof paper...but can't for the life of me find my icing kit box with various nozzles etc.

Would a cone of greaseproof paper work for pipe icing without the nozzle?...if not how could I adapt it?
I'm sure in 'olden days' they didn't have nozzles?????

    Any advice appreciated please!!

I used to use greaseproof paper to make icing bags. Not as good as one with a nozzle but I have found this on t'internet. A bit Americanish but, it gives you an idea.

As resident expert, I have to disagree here. It is my considered opinion that it is a GRIMACE that makes the icing flow. Also, a proper grimace can only be achieved with very stiff icing and an icing bag/gun that is a complete pain in the rear to use.

Just seen this, it works but the baking paper they refer to is probably silicon paper and not the baking parchment we normally get and if cutting to take a piping tube a piece of good sticky tape stops the paper slipping at the tube end.
