  • Nigella Sativa Oil

I have some cold-pressed Nigella Sativa oil, which is supposed to be taken as a 'supplement', ie taken straight from the spoon like cod-liver oil. Trouble is, it smells just like Olbas Oil, and try as I might I can't get it down my throat without gagging Has anyone got any ideas how I can disguise it/make it edible without heating it and destroying its goodness? It's sometimes known as black cumin in its seed form. I was thinking of maybe aioli? Or some kind of spicy salad dressing?

How bad is it? Could you stick it in humus or guacamole? Beat it into peanut butter?

Honestly, it just smells like Olbas Oil. Even holding my nose wasn't enough Mind you, I'm notoriously bad at swallowing tablets and the like...
So it needs to be something quite strong smelling/flavoured I think. It's supposed to be ace for psoriasis and other auto-immune stuff, so I really want to give it a go..

If it's a bit like flaxseed oil then put it in a nice salad dressing. Bit of lemon juice? A touch of mustard?

Is it the smell or the taste. or both?
Mix it with soy sauce and put it on cooked rice, with marmite on toast........

Will it go solid if you put it in the fridge - might help. I don't know if it's true but I remember from somewhere that tomato juice is good at masking smells.

Is there a health site where other people who use it could tell you how they manage to get it down?

Seeing as you can buy olbas oil throat sweets, try sucking it,or mix with treacle, icing, make your own sweets to suck, instead of taking it all at once, have smaller amounts, more often, spread the load, just experiment with things, what is bothering you the most, the taste,or the thought of something lumpy going down the hatch,

It's the smell, and the taste, and the fact that swallowing a spoonful of pure oil is just wrong It doesn't even get near the swallow reflex before I'm gagging

I've got some garlic that needs using so I think I'll try making some aioli with some in. I only need to get 2 tsp of it down a day...

Make a decoction of ginger juice, add sugar / honey / maple syrup and a few drops of the oil then drink.

I know what you mean about swallowing oil. How about Marchogaeth's tomato juice suggestion and turn it into a sort of bloddy mary, perhaps with some Worcestershire sauce in it as well.

I would put it in this "Cacik"
                            Natural Yoghurt
                            Chopped Cucumber
                            Two cloves crushed garlic
                            Chopped dill or mint
Spoon oil on and mix in

                            Try over bulgur wheat salad/tabbouleh.

I used to take lecithin every morning and it was like eating budgie seed - not that I ever have - I used to spoon it in and wash it down pronto with beetroot and carrot juice. I was very healthy back then. So you have my sympathy.
Where do you buy it from if you don't mind my asking? Only eldest sometimes suffers with psoraisis. Although I suspect it's the yeast in the air
