  • Holey apples - any uses?

Although I've been lucky enough to eat a few, most of my apples are now either falling off the tree or have holes in them. I was going to chuck them in the bin but it seems so wasteful.

Could anyone suggest an alternative? There discovery apples.

There's always apple sauce, I freeze it in ice cube trays then have it on my porridge.

Hayley its just apples cooked in a bit of water until they break down to a pulp, then add sugar to taste.

Hayley, you'll find that most fruit & veg comes with holes in, if it's not from the supermarket

You just cut the holes away (that sounds wrong, but you know what I mean), then use the leftovers as normal.

Apples: jam, chutney, wine, sauces, curries, soup ... have a browse through the relevant forums for recipes. You can freeze the chopped apples until you need them

If it doesnt have nibbled marks or holes, You have to wonder what they sprayed it
with to stop things eating it.

Then wonder should you be eating it?

Slice them up to make sure nothing is crawling around and eat around it.

Or freeze and cook it. Ignore the ex-crawlies.

Just think, if it's been eating apple for its entire life, it's only going to taste of one thing: apple. So as long as you don't see it before you munch it, you'll be fine.

I'm cutting some of mine into rings and drying them, you might need to slice them if there's lots of holes. I've never done it before so can't really advise on the best way -I just like dried apple so I thought I'd try it.

Invest in a juicer, freeze the Apple juice in small plastic water bottles to give yourself a little zap of Autumn sunshine through the dreary winter months. Don't throw the remaining pulp away! Chutney!!!!
