  • Preserving figs?

Any simple ways to preserve figs please? I've just picked 26 of the little beauties.
I've been eating 2-3 fresh ones each morning (yes, I know!!) but they're ripening too fast for me to eat them all fresh.
Too good to waste - so any ideas welcomed! Thanks

Can you dry them? I make jam, but then they just grow on trees around here

    Ice cream?

      What's fig jam like PP?
I don't have a dehydrator or ice cream maker - so jam or chutney is about my limit! Even then it has to be simple as I'm not that enthusiastic about cooking these days

You could freeze them in a sugar syrup.

        Endless wonder.

Fig jam is the mistress of jams. The God of jams. The last jam of the condemned man. Quite nice

            Jam sounds lovely!

Very easy, no churn, no ice cream maker, ice cream recipe:

It's so easy it's feels a bit cheaty to me but the results are very tasty!

            300ml double cream
197g (one tin) of*condensed*milk (NOT evaporated!)
            Half a lemon
Some or other fruit (anything from 110g up - I used about 300g of strawberries)

            1) Puree your fruit and add a few drops of lemon juice

            2) Put the cream and*condensed*milk in a large bowl and whisk until billowing (I wasn't sure what this meant so whisked until I got bored and then a fair bit longer!)

            3) Fold in the fruit puree, taste, add more lemon juice if you want to

            4) Stick in a plastic tub, cover and freeze

I'm just shocked that you literally rammed them in, and they grow. I've tried for 3 years now, and my figs never grow that much, but if they do, any fruit just rots off!

Rammed them in? Into the ground or into my mouth?
Might be able to find you a sucker or two if we (that means you) can dig them out!!

                      A lovely salad :
slices of parma ham on a plate, make that little cut in the top of the figs and squeaze so they open a bit. Add them decoratively to the plate! Make a salad dressing with a little olive oil, lemon juice, salt and pepper and a drizzle of honey. Pour this over. Lovely with melon of you don't have any figs!

Better make it quick for the figs - or they'll have disappeared into something - like my mouth!!
