  • Runner beans

Anybody had good results with freezing them? I have frozen two lots by cutting up, not blanching, then freezing.
It suddenly occurred that I should have taken advice on here before I started. I have bad memories from years ago of soggy runners after freezing blanched.
Would love to hear from anyone who can help

I froze a load, but then made pickle with them, which was my intention all along. I've not frozen them to eat as a vegetable. I'm sure they'll be fine, just don't overcook them when the time comes.
Is there anything that isn't made better by half an hour pottering in the veg patch?

I have a freezer drawer full of frozen (not blanched) runner beans. In fact, I'm actually looking right now for a chest freezer for the garage as I still have probably the same amount to come, twice over.

I just boil mine from frozen, and they're fine. FWIW I've grown white lady, if that makes any difference - I have no idea (I just prefer the white flowers )

I freeze them without blanching too, and do the same as Chris, drop straight into boiling water from frozen, the taste and texture is better that way than if you defrost them first.

Ditto. IMO It's important to harvest them at their best. If they are going over they are really not up to scratch when you cook them.

I cut, lightly blanch then open freeze them before bagging. I use them in stews, pies and Bolognese, etc, during the cold months.

Don't blanch and defo cook from frozen, preferably steamed as that's always easier to control than boiling.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
