  • Mezze

It started out with a thought that we should try and use some of the leaves from our two grape vines. It ended up with hours of preparation and a meal this evening of mezze, or Greek tapas.

From the bottom up: Dolmades (those vine leaves, filled with rice and minced lamb), Falafel, Chard and feta filo parcels, Cucumber tzatziki, Humous, two mini lamb moussakas, two garithes yiouvetsi (sungold tomato, prawn & feta bake), Beetroot keftedes (veggie meatballs) and a lettuce, tomato and feat salad. All made from scratch and with lots of home grown ingredients. Shame we could only eat a third of it!

At least you won't have to cook tomorrow
I feel a bucket load of Gigantes coming on with some Kolokithokeftedes, pita bread and a big bowl of olives and tomatoes..............maybe not tonight though as I've just eaten!!

You're all too kind, honestly - I was just following recipes. Patchninja - pick the leaves and straight away blanch them for a couple of mins in boiling water. That just seems to soften them and stop them drying out. Once you've filled them, they're baked in the oven for an hour, covered with sauce and a lid. Must say, they were nice.

Bren - thank you. And I would indeed put it in the show, but have got something else in mind for that thread of the competition. Another busy cooking weekend coming up!

I'd sooner eat Mezze Style, (or Tapas, or Antipasto) than ANY boring old "meat-and-two-veg" meal. Looks FAB!!
