    Hi

    My neighbour has just given me a tone of very ripe Sharon fruit.

    I like the taste but very very sweet

    Any ideas, would be nice to make something and give him part of it

    Please no Jam, with the fruit the locals give me i am jammed out

    Looked online and found persimmon bars which i might give ago, but first hand experience is great

    I just bought three yesterday from the supermarket so I'm really jealous of your bountiful crop. I really love the taste of them!

    I had a quick google and have you thought about making wine or cider out of the fruit?

      We have Sharon Fruit - aka Persimmons or Kakis. Our trees are the astringent variety and I mean ASTRINGENT!!!!!!!!!! If you pick them off the tree and try to eat one they turn your face inside out! What our neighbour do is to pick the fruit when still firm, put them into a lidded bucket. In the middle of the bucket they put a plastic bottle with the top narrow bit cut off and into the bottle they put some Ponche (orange brandy liquor) about an inch in the bottom of the bottle. They then close the lid and wait for about 10-14 days - the fruits are then AMAZING! It is reputed that these fruits have many health benefits, such as lowering cholesterol and blood pressure.

        Wine? Maybe mixed with a less sweet fruit.

          Recipe for Sharon fruit

          I would suggest to squeeze its juice into a tumbler. Then this extract should be dried for one or two day. After it has dried up completely then convert it into powdered form and whenever after dinner you love to eat something sweet just eat it.
