Do you cook for 40 people, half of them kids, some with different allergies, and a couple of the adults who can't eat the main meal, and put on a 4 course meal comprising fancy dishes for the adults?

A timer on an oven and a set of scales where you have to scale-up ingredients in your head is a poor second to using some technology when the recipe is already stored electronically.

I don't want to spend more time fiddling than cooking.
Have you tried any of them to know whether they would, or not?

I think it is a bit horse for courses though, I don't get on with apps in general and don't want electronic devices in my kitchen when I'm cooking as I'm messy and would end up getting something all over it causing total damage . Also as when people have said about using apps for recording stuff at the lottie, I like to get away from e-mail and the internet when I'm cooking (it's another stress relief for me when I don't have time to worry about work and other things). When I'm doing a really complicated meal or combination of meals I prefer to set it out on paper the night before with times etc when things need to be done - think it was a discipline which was drilled into me when taught meal planning during o'level domestic science and old habits sometimes die hard. That's not to say that the apps don't work for some people, you may yet find your ideal but if they don't do what you want then they can end up becoming quite complicated.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I love my ipad for the kitchen. I use the email facility on it for personal emails only so that I'm not tempted to use it for work.

Everyone is different. Scraps of paper would drive me mad. Any timings or changes to the recipe can be added while I'm in the kitchen stored ready for the next time. I would hate to jot it down and log on to my computer later to add it in.
I bake a lot of cakes and often want a cake recipe in a different size or a deeper cake etc. or maybe scale a 12inch cake down to two 7inch tins. I use apps to scale the cakes up or down and to calculate the different timings according to the weight of the mix and I use the paprika to record the different baking tin sizes and the different timings. Cooking in an Aga, the timings are usually different. I wouldn't be without some apps.

Nope. If I was a chef doing those sorts of numbers I doubt I would need much help!

During school holidays we do frequently have 30 or 40 at weekends with 20 or more staying, and we like to have a go at putting on a good show

Hahaha ... 2 kids in late teens, rather than a production line of 10 or more kids! but we love having the house full ... well ... now & again, rather than NOW and AGAIN and AGAIN
