Panettone is just fruit loaf with extra eggs and butter. I've never seen what people find so Christmassy about it.
I have a feeling I'll find stollen the same, except for the marzipan....
Maybe it'll just be carrot cake again this year, though I do miss having a proper cake to ice.Location - Leicestershire - Chisit-land
Endless wonder.

Pretty much fighting over it here, always make a mini one to have before Christmas as I won't cut the proper one till Christmas Day tea . Always a sad day when the last slice is eaten towards the end of January (love how well rich fruit cakes keep, getting better every day). Stollen is nice but it would only last a couple of days.
That's one of the things I dislike about Xmas cake, the way it hangs around, and you don't feel it's right to bake anything else until it's all gone. A cake is just for Christmas, not for lifeLocation - Leicestershire - Chisit-land

* Fruit loaf is easy for me to make - panettone isn't *
and it's traditional for our family - I have an Italian surname
