  • Thinning Jam.

    Looking for advice please.
Opened up the first few pots of my plum jam from Dec 2015 and it is very thick, more like a plum butter.
Could I put it in a saucepan and boil it adding additionsl water or is there nothing that can be donewith it.

You can boil it with water. To mix it though you'd be better off using a handheld blender.

Thank you flynch, only saw this now. I will give it a try.

I use any over set jams I make in things like bread and butter puddings.

I have a wonderful batch of cherry 'glue' ...I might just follow flynch's advice with a couple of pots ...I like the idea of using the hand mixer!

A friend told me that if jam was too 'set' to re-brand it as a fruit leather and if it was too runny, it was a pouring sauce! It's all in the marketing.
