  • what to do with gooseberry?

    Hi everyone!
    My mom has in her garden about 5 gooseberry plants. A few days ago she gave my some fruits, but I really have no idea what to prepare using them.. I really like them in their raw form, but I would like to prepare something more ambituous like a cake etc. Except desserts, can I you add them anywhere? I am waiting for your favourite recipes.

    Well I like gooseberry curd.....it lasts reasonably well and is delicious, also gooseberry jam is well paired with mackerel.

          their tartness offsets cream or fatty foods very well so are often made in to fools, mouses or ice cream, often with added elderflower..... https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/...derflower-fool

          How about an elderflower and gooseberry vodka or gin?

          I've also seen them used raw on the top of French tartlets (sweet pastry topped with creme pate and then sliced fruit of your choice)

          Crumble and pies....they do cook down to a mosh so something like a tart tart in wouldn't work.

          As said before if you made it in to a sauce it would go with a fatty fish like mackerel or with pork in the placed of apple sauce.

          Try them raw with cheese instead of grapes or if you have loads make a chutney or jam, ginger would probably work well with them in a jam.

                I've been making gooseberry and orange jelly ;
                gooseberry, Ginger and chocolate jam;
                gooseberry and blackcurrant jam;
                gooseberry and banana jam;
                and gooseberry and elderflower jam.
                Some of the purée for the orange and gooseberry jelly was spare, so I froze it in ice cube trays to either make a curd later on in the summer...or mix it with cream and yogourt to make a summer Fool.

                  I made this one year:

                  Gooseberry semolina soufflé recipe - All recipes UK

                  This isn't the exact recipe and I used halved fresh goosegogs but it is really nice

                    I made guzzgog ice cream, it was not nice at all, guzzgogs with ice cream fine, weird? Guzzgogs and strawberry crumble is my better halfs piece de resistance in high summer with a dollop of mascarpone on top.(off to check if they are ready yet)

                      i shall have a go at Gooseberry and Chamomile Jam this year, which is really just a basic gooseberry jam recipe but cooking the gooseberries in a tea made with 3 chamomile teabags instead of plain water.
