On a related point which could/should be a separate thread, has anyone got the prospect of maintaining a crop of fresh cucumbers over say about 4 months ? If so how have you managed to do it eg several plants which are all continuing to crop steadily, or plants raised at different times, some of which started to crop when the others finished, or whatever ?

I ask because I'd prefer a few cucumbers a week over a long period, rather than a whole ton of them at once - I've got some which have been cropping for a month or so, but it looks to me that they are going to run put of steam in the next few weeks in terms of producing more fruit.

In same boat. 1st year, so to be expected with me. I was thinking of 2 different varieties next year. Couple weeks ago Monty planted 2 or 3 plants in a Large Black Plastic Planter (type you put patio tree into), leaving 100mm on top for watering.
Thought was 2 plants each tub - different - to spread the cropping. or perhaps a gherkin and a cucumbers depending on size of tub. Then do same a few weeks later.

I have picked a grant total of two cucumbers so far. I am growing some indoors and some out and so far the outdoor ones look best. Some wee flowers staring so I am hopeful.
If the happy problem of a glut arises I have two sons who will happily blend and drink anything green.

I have loads of gherkin type cucumbers - two plants in each flower bucket, growing against a fence in plenty of sun. I have probably pickled 60 cucumbers so far, and they're still coming. Lots of well rotted chicken poop in them buckets, which might explain why they're doing SO well

Start a few more plants. I'm thinking about doing it myself - already done 2 lots, started a few months apart. My plants are still producing but looking tired so might start a couple more to see me through into autumn.

Pick the cucumbers earlier - you might still have 100 cucumbers but they'll be half the length.

Cucumbers make a great base juice to add stronger flavoured juices to.

                Cucumber cordial ? https://www.waitrose.com/home/recipe...mintsyrup.html

You can also grate it with some yoghurt and garlic which makes a great dip.

Our house goes through about 1 cucumber a day.

We have six plants to support this and give a few away every two weeks.

If you don't mind me asking, how long a period do you reckon your plants will crop over ?

Do you think you'll go on getting fruit off these cucumber plants for 3 months say

The reason being that I know I could raise more new plants to extend the season, but for my needs if I could find a sort of cucumber which cropped in dribs and drabs over a long time rather than ending up with a glut then nothing, that would suit me better.

Well, I actually sowed all my cucumbers on Jan 1st!!

The 6 plants have been producing good fruit for a long time.

Ill update the post above when they stop producing, but as for now, It looks like they are in good condition, all be it, a bit crammed for space.

Ever since you put this post up here I've been having a ponder. The bad weather meant I had time to do some recipe testing and came up with a boozy cucumber granita. It's a bit cold for today but we might get some summer yet.
