Just caught up with this thread. Looks like you have managed to save them Jay.
If they were knife cuts, and it was kids, it is kinda worrying that we have knife wielding kids on the site.
Must admit, it looks more like either rat or bird damage to me, but if you are convinced it was a knife frenzy, who am I to argue. If someone was going to nobble them and they had a knife I would have thought they would have just cut the pumpkin off?
Good luck with the pumpkins. I may just turn up at the weigh -in with my green grapefruit, sorry pumpkins,if for no other reason than to give you all a laugh.
And before anyone asks, I aint no pumpkin nobbler!

When I was putting the wax on there was a uniform shape to the cuts with a slight curve that looked the same shape to that of a trowel tip. Nothing else was messed with so I doubt it was kids.

Hope they make it Jay-ell... and if they do you must be in with a shot - it only makes sense to vandalise the biggest pumpkin?
At first look it looked like just the sort of thing one of my boys would do with a thumb nail (on our plot, I hasten to add) simply because the sensation of doing it would have engaged with some of his sensory issues. I can't help thinking cutting or breaking the vine would be a more sure fire way of sabotaging a pumpkin.
We have some pumpkin thefts on our plot, so I try and take mine in far enough ahead of halloween to avoid temptation.
Yes and you should be allowed to enter the damaged fruit and the judges are told to judge and totally disregard the damage as if it wasn’t there.
Kind Regards.............Rob
Does that mean I can cut a flap out of mine and fill it with nails?
With a pumpkin the size of a grapefruit it wouldn't really matter whether I filled it with lead, it still wouldn't win.

They're looking good and a lot bigger than anything I've ever managed to grow. I'd never of thought of putting wax into the wound. Nice save . I'll be using that technique if any of mine are ever damaged ( it'd only ever be accidental by myself or the dogs )
I have everything crossed that you win or at very least beat the lowlife that tried to sabotage your pumpkins.
The weigh in is on the 27th Oct so theres a little over 3 weeks. Pulled the plants up the other day but the pumpkins seem fine

(you can't see the scars in this photo - you can see the stretch marks on one of them though)
Looking good Jay. Hope you do well in the show.

Firstly thanks to your support both pumpkins made it through to maturity - although my estimation was very poor as they came in at about 27kg and 28kg.
The larger one took second ace which is good as the winner was the daughter of the plot holder the competition was named after.
You can see the scarring on my pumpkin second from the right.
