Yesterday I was helping out with the Heritage Open Day weekend for Cockersand Abbey Chapter House when four teenage girls came in and had a look around. Our local historian started telling them that the original floor was four foot lower than it is now because it was used as a mausoleum for the Dalton family who used to own it and about 16 members of the family are buried beneath the current floor. One of the girls made a hasty exit, but one looked down at the floor then looked up and said … wait for it … "Are they dead?" Absolutely priceless!!

A few years ago I watched Prince Philip being interviewed about Windsor Castle. The interviewer had already said that the Prince can regularly be seen in the castles farm shop talking to visitors.
Well.................Philip said that the daftest question he had ever been asked was by a foreign tourist who told hem - 'Oh yes the Castle is wonderful but why did they build it so close to Heathrow Airport?I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work. Thomas A. Edison

That reminds me of when I was working in an Information Centre. An american came in and wanted to know why Stonehenge hadn’t been built nearer to Stratford-on-Avon so they could “do” them both in one day."I prefer rogues to imbeciles as they sometimes take a rest" (Alexander Dumas)
