  • Money to burn, what on?

As I may have mentioned I retire tomorrow.
My firm has offered to buy me a retirement present of reasonable price.
    Looking at gardening stuff.
    Some ideas are
    A cold frame.
    Stainless steel tools
I have seen some fancy hoes, any ideas on types.
So in general what should I get.
    Thanks
    Jimmy

What don't you have and feel a need for?
        A decent wheelbarrow.
        The cold frame.
There is a satisfaction in handling nice expensive tools like stainless, but leaving them in an allotment shed always makes me nervous. If you only have a back garden thats less of a worry.
How about a cordless strimmer or lawn edging tool?

Oh and congratulations, and yes I envey you.

One of those multi tools, which has one shaft but can change the heads, I have one and find the rake, small fork(hand fork size and trowel (again hand) very convenient and saves bending
Congratulations on your retirement, and wish you many years to enjoy it

I am looking forward to when I retire

Sit on mower, well I guess you could sit on one, but as soon as it moved you would be in the flower border!
              Multitool sounds good.
I was thinking perhaps of one of those hoes with a rotating tiller. But can't spot one

Having good quality tools is worth everything. We got a new large and small spade and fork and a new trowel and hand fork. They're made by Bulldog and are far better than anything else you could get because of the way they're made. See what you are in need of or would like as a special treat so you can remember your workmates when you use it.
I work very hard so please don't expect me to think as well!

                        good tools

I picked up some Burgoyne and Ball tools in a sale at the garden centre (a fork and a compost scoop). They are stainless with wooden handles and brass ferrules. In terms of ability to stand up to hard use, a contractor's all-steel thing would probably last longer, but, they are lovely to use and the wooden handles take a coat of Danish oil very nicely and look really nice. And for garden use they'll be fine for many a year.

I think you can get them engraved too, which might be a nice touch. I have an engraved pen from one place I worked, and I really like that.

Gosh...I'm getting excited about your retirement gift too now!!!
I've been thinking about what I would ask for all afternoon

My final decision would be a good quality wheelbarrow . Yep

                            Congratulations on your retirement!

Good tools would be my first choice. Coldframe (or gh if the budget is v generous).

Maybe a sundial - a bit like the traditional grandfather clock retirement gift, but less accurate so you can use it as an excuse when you want to spend a bit longer at the plot ;-)
