The sun dial sounds a lovely idea.
Cold frame, heated propagator, seat or good tools are all great gift ideas.
When my late father retired he was gifted a greenhouse and it was even erected for him.
I can honestly say he spent the best years of his life in that greenhouse.
And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.
Congratulations on your retirement. I have recently taken early retirement myself and I am just starting to enjoy it now. At first I was like a cat on a hot tin roof but I am gradually acclimatising to a slower pace of life. I love it and I'm sure you will too!
My Majesty made for him a garden anew in order to present to him vegetables and all beautiful flowers.- Offerings of Thutmose III to Amon-Ra (1500 BCE)
Maybe nice fancy plant supports or obelisks, decent planters or large pots, an arch or pergola. Or a nice garden seat.
Whatever you go for congratulations on your retirement.
The perfect place to chill and think about work, chiefly the journey you no longer need to make, the meetings you no longer need to attend, the deadlines that are no longer of any consequence, the restrictions on life that have melted away, and all the things you're now free to do instead. Just a little jealous Guessing you've retired now Jimmy but I'd still get one..
Already got hops on the fence. That's another of my retirement occupations, taking up brewing beer again.
And possibly wine.
When I was younger we stopped brewing wine because we ended up drinking it out of the demijohn.
The final straw was when I had to use four-wheel drive to get up the stairs to bed !
Still older and wiser ....... maybe.
Jimmy
Expect the worst in life and you will probably have under estimated!
Happy retirement Jimmy, more time for gardening & trying out your new tools, they’re lovely gifts! I don’t know what I’d sow in the cold frame now, maybe rocket or a few pots of sweet peas & some broad beans,a few brussel sprouts & winter gem lettuce?
