Following from the 'washing powder' thread, any other tips out there? Sure we have lots to share.

Mine is bicarbonate of soda on carpets etc to rid of smells, liked spilt milk, it works!

You can put a dish of it in the fridge too to absorb smells.
One thing that did amaze me was olive oil and fag ash mixed to a past to get rid of rings on furniture, worked really well when I tried it, but did have a lot of ingredient to hand.
I found a whole book of things to do with bicarb and when I went to the chemist to get something other than a silly little pot of it, was told I was unable to get larger quantities as it's used to cut drugs.

On Beetroot packets, it says about thinning them out. Some tips I was given.
1) Take the time to plant the seeds more sparingly, even singly
2) Don't take out the skinny ones, take out the bigger ones and transplant them!
3) When a bit bigger, transplant the skinny ones.
For some reason, this transplanting seems to do em good.

Gardening "wisdom" says that you shouldn't transplant beetroot but in reality (if you can be bothered) it's fine.

A teaspoon of vinegar and sugar to take away a tickly cough (it works)

Oh, and don't buy swing bin liners...use two carrier bags instead, each stretched diagonally across the bin to cover half of it ... it makes sense when you do it

Talking of coughs and sore throats - hot toddy's do me wonders!!! Good dollop of whiskey, honey and lemon juice with hot water!

Honest, I'm not a whiskey drinker! Actually, is it whisky without the 'e'???

White wine on red wine spills! Shame to waste it but it does work!

Don't have pets if you want a hair free house!

Ummm more tips? Slow roasted meat is moister and tastier than the usual timings - ie. chicken in oven for 6hrs (200 degrees for 30mins then turn down to 80 for rest of cooking time) is just unbelieavably lovely.

We use those balls in the tumble dryer. It has nigated the use of conditioner and cuts the drying time by a 3rd.......yes we only use if we cant dry on the line and when we do use it we vent the hot air into the greenhouse.

I ran out of fabric conditioner a couple of weeks ago and honestly can't tell the difference, except for the towels which are now lovely and scratchy.
