We burn wood and generally try to get hold of

      Yew
      Oak
      Beech
      Ash

all of which burn well when well seasoned. In fact our two log stores under the veranda have an oak beech mix in for next winter and the one next to the workshop has yew and oak in. I never burn pine unless desperate as it deposits resins into the chimney far quicker than hardwoods and its this that causes chimney fires.

Piglet willie beat me to it. Our chimney sweep told us never to use any conifer as it eventaully blocks the chimney. We do use pine cones as fire lighters though, magic!
