  • swallows and swifts!

    I think they have gone
They seem to have gone so early this year.
    Have you still got yours?

In all honesty here on the Isle of Wight, my wife and I haven't seen any at all!

Haven't seen any swifts, but we have had three broods of swallows during the year in one of our outbuildings, plus a lot more in the barns next door. The daily visit from the Hobby has been the source of some excitement amongst them, too!

Sorry - missed the original question.

Looking at their activity, I expect them to go within a week or so.

The swifts have gone Headfry. I've got either Swallows or Housemartins still around - didn't get a good look but will keep a watch.
Autumn seems to be early. Some trees are turning colour and some already losing leaves.

Had one family of swallows in our barn in Normandy and they left 2 weeks ago.
It was wonderful watching the parents flying round with their 4 offspring catching flies.
Plum tree leaves dropping there too.
Here in Cheshire it looks like the flowering cherries and horsechestnut leaves are starting to turn.
              I just love autumn....and winter....and spring....oohh...and summer too!!!!

ah these are my favourite birds!
unfortunately the swifts left a long time ago - mid august i think. they don't stay long, as they only arrive in may.
swallows and housemartins should be off soon i think. everybody get your last glimpses of them before they go!

The Devonshire swallows are still here but beginning to group together.Every year I swear I'll watch carefully and see them go,but either they are up before me in the mornings or wait for me to turn my back!!

Ours have left for the gathering place - wherever that is. Not a bad year, three healthy broods from the one nest.

Just seen this thread. I've noticed over the years the swallows get very active just before they leave for warmer climes. Towards the end of last week, one night they were VERY noisy, sure enough, next evening, no swallows. All gone 'till next Summer.

Checked it out and the swallows have gone, but we still have some house martins. Was in Dunoon yesterday and there was still swallows there.
And nothing to do with the question but was thrilled to see a red squirrel there. We only have the grey rats here.

The Devon swallows have gone and as usual I missed the going of them, can't even say exactly when they went.
Each year I swear I'll watch them go and each year they beat me to it!!!
