They gathered here about 12 days ago and are well gone now. I think MIL still had them 2 days ago in Cork (very southern end of the country), but she thought they would be gone this week as they were gathering at the time. Very early this year though....

Makes me sad when they leave, happy when they return though. Heck of an epic journey for one so small!
      Good luck little birds!

Good to see you there Nick. Swifts (long gone) and swallows and housemartins gone weeks ago. Have seen the geese heading south. Summer has gone (although just beautiful today) but no winter arrivals yet. Will definitely be watching.

We saw a mass migration of pink-footed geese a couple of weeks ago. They go down the east coast on their way to Norfolk for the winter. The twitching fraternity had news via mobile phones that one of the flocks had a snow goose in it. Even though the skeins of geese were well off the coast, looking like drifts of smoke in some cases, you could spot the one white chappie even with the naked eye (although we had binocs). One of our friends googled the kind of goose and the eventual location and found that it had been there last year too - photos to prove it.

Yep, Flummery. OH works on North Norfolk coast, he says the geese are now coming in. I'll tell him to watch out for Snowy
