I can't get my Riddles Ginger Compound anywhere, even online. I now have four 1 litre stoppered drinks bottles ready and nothing to put in them

Any idea folks?I may try the ginger route by grating raw ginger as an additive.

At that price it would be wroth adding to hamper, although it may lower the tone a bit.

This is the non alcoholic ginger wine recipe I downloaded from the net.

        Ginger Wine or Cordial

Ingredients: 2oz (50g) root ginger; 2 lemons; 2 oranges; 1 gallon (3.8 litres) water; 3 1/2 lbs (1.5 kg) sugar; small pinch of cayenne pepper

Method: Break the ginger up, .and boil it with one gallon of water and the rind of the oranges and lemons. Add a small pinch of cayenne pepper during boiling. Strain the liquid into a container holding the sugar. Add the juice of the lemons and oranges. Strain and bottle, Makes approximately one gallon – if you wish a milder brew use rather less ginger and miss out the cayenne pepper.

I've followed the recipe but couldn't taste the ginger .In an effort to give it a bit more flavour and colour I used half white sugar and half brown sugar After I tasted the hot liquid I grated another couple of lumps of ginger into it and added a star anise.

I'll see what it tastes like in the morning when I strain it.

Its been a bit like comedy of errors with this fiasco of creating a Crimbo drink. Two of the four bottles I bought from Poundland had tiny holes in the bottom and the ginger wine ran out. What was left didn't even taste of ginger so I've given up and bought four bottles of ginger wine this morning.

I'll just have to rely on making a home made hamper next year as this year has been a washout, what with moving home and moving allotment.

Thanks, I needed an idea to use up the last of my chillies. Is this as simple as drying to a crisp and then grinding in a mortar? Or is there more to it than that?

It's as simple as that .
I use a coffee grinder and have all extractor fans going flat out and widows open.

Thank you. You probably have more dangerous ingredients than I.
