Lumpy, I think you're talking to the converted. Lots of dogs from rescues here. They may not all be "oldies" but most of them aren't puppies either.
The important thing is that they've brought joy into our lives and we have done the same for them. Everything must end one day and it best not to remember your friends by what happened on their last day but for all the happy times you shared together beforehand. That's my view anyway.

Both of mine are brother and sister from the same litter. But. I had Hollie as a six week old puppy from her mum’s owner. The mum was a Jack Russell and the dad a blue toy poodle owned by the owners son and the litter was an accident. Prince was adopted by the daughter of a friend of mine who found herself pregnant when he was 10 months old. She gave him to her mum who realised she couldn’t keep him as her husband doesn’t like dogs. He was quite badly treated by the husband so my friend was going to take him to Blue Cross.

I cut out the middle man and took him on. My intention before I had either of them was to adopt a rescue dog. In a way they are both rescue dogs. They give me unconditional love and make me take exercise.

Who wants a puppy when you can have a ruddy great ginger lump that takes up an entire 3 seater sofa (and he growled if you wanted him to share it - he settled in far too quickly )

Leah was only with us briefly (small child issues) but she was a lovely girl. Black greyhounds struggle to find homes thankfully Leah didn't.

It’s put about that Christmas is the time for giving. Well, obviously you lot give your time, love and humanity all year round.
So, in appreciation of all re homers to any animal I’m standing in a chair clapping my trunk off.
P.S I have a soft spot for Greyhounds too.

growing up we had a rescue and I still miss her now, we lost her about 6 years ago she was around 16. You couldn’t want for a more loving clever and crazy dog.
I’d love a rescue dog but it’s the wrong time in our lives both working full time it wouldn’t be fair. Your stories all brought a tear to my eyes.
