    Good Morning Peeps,

First day off in what seems like an eternity, not because I have plans but because I'm grotty, and don't want to infect my work colleagues this close to that which shall not be named. My cold and flu elixir has changed recently and now contains

1cm Fresh Ginger (from the greenhouse)
    1/2 lemon
    A glug of honey
2 tablespoons of Elderberry Syrup (home made)
    1/2 teaspoon of ground turmeric
All in a mug with boiling water.

Now I'm not suggesting any medicinal properties or benefits for this though other might but, wondered what you use to make you feel human again.
I'm only here cos I got on the wrong bus.

Honey, lemon squash (one with added vit. C), clove and cinnamon.

I think all but lemon are meant to have antiseptic type properties or some such thing.

      When I want to sleep...
Whisky, a splash of crabbies ginger wine , hot water and fresh lemon.
Ratio depending on how grotty you feel
It certainly helps clear the sinuses when you inhale the steam too

Slug of dark rum and some alcoholic clove cordial brings on a warm glow.

Very difficult to source clove cordial now there are no traditional offies about.

It's a rare occasion Nicos, which is probably why my boss said chill.

I think I'll make some soup for lunch, lentil and bacon or potato and leek?.

Thyme and honey infusion. Good for colds and sore throats.

Steep a sprig or so of dried thyme (for this purpose, I pick thyme when it's flowering in spring, but thyme leaves should also work well) in water near boiling temperature. Leave to infuse for a minute or so. Remove the thyme then stir in a bit of honey when the water is not quite so hot.

I thought this would never work, but now I pick thyme every year just in case I need it. Effective and very cheap and quick to prepare. Plus, and here's the bit nobody ever believes, it's delicious.

Lemon, cinnamon, cloves and honey in hot water.

I sympathise, Mikey, I'm just at the tail end of a week of grotty cold and finally starting to feel fit again, gravelly voice and snuffly nose finally gone. hope you feel well soon.

a good old fashioned hot toddy. A generous slug of whisky in a mug. A heaped desert spoonful of set honey. Fill the mug with boiling water and stir till the honey has melted. Sip and slurp until it is done then glow

Whisky Mac. However Nicos’ recipe sounds good.

I’m a firm believer in less is more.
Honey - the Ancient Greeks used it for battle wounds. It has the ability (through osmosis) to destroy bacteria and provide a sweetener.
Lemon or lime juice from a real fruit. The vitamin C has medicinal proof to help with colds and flu.
Very hot water - kills bugs etc in the thought and may activate the natural drugs within the honey and lemon.
Slog of whiskey or brandy - the alcohol helps you relax and so sleep which is nature’s greatest remedy (obviously that depends upon the diagnosis).
                        So,
                        Big spoon of honey.
                        Big slog of lemon/lime juice.
Big slug of whisky or brandy.
Boiling water to fill the mug.
                        Stir well.

Get well soon Mikey - and don't come visiting until you're better.

                          Honey and lemon here.

My feel better remedy is lemon and ginger slices in hot water along with a spoon of honey and a few cardamom seeds. I drink it without honey all year round because I like the taste.

Bless ya, I hope you feel better soon Mikey!

If I get a blocked nose of any kind, I feel worse than if my nose is clear, so nasal spray is an absolute must for me. I have one in every handbag, one by the bed, etc.

                              For cough, definitely Covonia.

For everything else, it's usually lemon and honey with hot water, or garlic crushed into a cup, and hot water. Makes ya stink to high heaven, and it tastes horrible, but it works for me. I will try the thyme next time I get a cold though!
