    ................because I don't like marmalade.
I used to make it for my OH who liked chunky marmalade - so I would add extra peel from anything - grapefruit, lemons etc. Cutting the peel into shreds got a bit boring so the "shreds" got bigger and bigger until they were more like quarter oranges and you could only get 2 bits of peel on a slice of toast. At that point, I stopped making marmalade.

^^^^ if you pressure cooked the oranges, the skin goes really soft. You can scrape off the pith and the zest becomes more of a squidgy pulp.
I too am not a fan of marmalade, but still make Clementine or orange 'jam' with no zest

That's what I do with mine. I get wrong off OH for peeling an orange and adding the peel to the log pile though!

Instead of making marmalade and jam, is it OK if I eat them fresh? It was only the peel that I needed a use for.

There's very little food waste here because I have a Bob and 2 dogs

But I always cut up Christmas cards with pinking shears to make gift labels for the following year. And always try to save gift bags and boxes if possible for re using.

You could freeze the zest then pressure cook itand add it to apple jelly!
Be nice with sage added into the mix too.

You can also put them in a jar and cover with white vinegar. Let it stand for 2 weeks and strain off the vinegar into a spray bottle.
                  Voila, citrus vinegar cleaner.

Lots of recipes online. I might try this when I have some more peel - just microwaved the last lot for firelighters.

If you microwave the peel does that not cancel out the cost of savings on and recycling benefits of orange peel firelighters by using fossil fuels to dry them?

........what if they're microwaved alongside other things.
I would have put them in the Aga but I turned it off last January and haven't turned it back on since. How much fossil fuell has that saved?

I find they dry naturally overnight in the woodpile!

If you used wood as a fuel in the Aga you could fire it up again without using fossil fuels.

If you find you have netting bags which contained fruit then don't chuck them out.
If you fold them into 5-10 cm squares and stitch the edges together, you get a gentle scourer for the kitchen sink.
Might be worth asking friends and neighbours to save them...maybe show them how to reuse them?

Of course it's better to buy the fruit individually, but sometimes it's too expensive or the option isn't offered!

My daffodil bulb netting bag now contains hazelnuts and is hung up in the barn so they don't go mouldy!
